Will the Running Well® Program help reduce some of the most common injuries runners’ experience?
Yes, this program will reduce the degree andfrequency of common running injuries.
Most running injuries are the result of repetitive forces combined with musculoskeletal dysfunction. The most minor biomechanical flaw in body structure either from birth or developed over time in motion will become a major issue as the runner increases mileage,intensity or other activity. Some resulting common injuries are: Runners’ knee; ShinSplints; Plantar Fasciitis; Achilles Tendon Pain; and Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome.
Running injuries can be minimized significantly with simple but effective adjustmentsto “how” you run. In our Running Well® Program, we teach and train through the use of drills, visual feedback and body awareness.
How you run, the biomechanics of your running, sets you up for either fluid joint motionor for compressive joint forces. The joint motion is either hindered by or guided by muscles, tendons, and other soft tissue structures.
Our Running Well® Program influences all of the structures involved in your running.We include the whole body in the program but in the training, apply drills in an organizedand running specific manner that will make sense for your running.
How will I know if the program is right for me? Should I see my doctor first?
If you have a known injury, in particular, a stress fracture then the answer is, see yourdoctor first. If you have intermittent nagging pain or injuries, you may want to see our physical therapist first before starting the program. We offer a $35.00 screeningassessment and treatment session just for those who are not sure and need more information. What about after completing the Running Well® Program?
You will receive a manual with well written descriptions and pictures to guide you along with visualdemonstrations and practice sessions of each body movement, drill and joint loosening or stretching technique. Upon completion of the program you will receive a CD ofdemonstrations of the drills and a copy of your before/after video recording of your running form. To assure your results; our program is designed to emphasize bodyawareness and high repetition of training and movement drills. We offer individual refresher sessions for $35.00 each at any time after completion of the program to providean opportunity to be videotaped, problem solve current issues and to expand on growth in your running.
